The ability to correctly diagnose damp and timber problems, and identify appropriate remedial action and control measures, can save major expense on unnecessary work or fighting litigation.

Les has wide and in depth expertise in these fields.
He has an Honours Degree in Chemistry, and then spent 3 years in the laboratories of a major UK based international construction company.

After a short period in a company manufacturing resins, he moved to a manufacturer of Wood Preservatives. There his knowledge was invaluable in providing laboratory services to contractors carrying out timber treatments and damp proofing in buildings. He later moved to a national timber treatment and damp proofing contractor, and gained further on-site experience of investigations and sampling, for confirmatory lab work. This included surveying of buildings for these types of defect.

He subsequently joined the relevant Trade Association (now the Property Care Association) as Technical Officer, to improve vetting of new applicants for membership, and set up a system for ongoing technical assessment of member companies. This role grew by merger over time to encompass Structural (or underground) Waterproofing and Pest Control. As part of this, he regularly dealt with disputes between members and their clients, over the same 22 year period.

During this period, he has gained further qualifications:-

  • Certificated Surveyor of Timber & Dampness in Buildings (CSTDB) – formerly known as Certificated Surveyor in Remedial Treatments (CSRT)
  • Certificated Surveyor in Structural Waterproofing (CSSW)
  • British Pest Control Association Diploma in Pest Control Parts 1 & 2
  • NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Safety & Health (With Distinction)
  • CIEH Level 3 Food Hygiene (with Credit)

He has acted as an examiner for both CSRT and CSSW examinations.

He is a Technical Member of IOSH (the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health).

He is a Consultant member of the Property Care Association.

He set up this practice in 2007.
